The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Barbering is a vocational qualification that has been designed to develop a limited number of barbering skills to a high level of occupational ability and will prepare you to enter the men's hairdressing sector as a unisex hairdresser. This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 years and over, entry onto this qualification can be via previous achievement of a Level 2 qualification in women's hairdressing and/or a successful skills test and interview.
This qualification includes the units to prepare you to work effectively as a junior unisex hairdresser, including: client consultation for hair services, cutting men's hair, cutting facial hair and following health and safety in the salon.
This qualification will develop you knowledge, understanding and skills to enable you to advise and consult with men on the type of hair cut and facial hair shaping the way they want, but just as importantly what is suitable for them. You will also learn how to work in a safe manner throughout the service protecting both yourself and your clients.
What could this qualification lead to?
This qualification will prepare you for employment as a junior unisex hairdresser. On completion of this qualification you will widen your career opportunities from working as a hairdresser to be able to offer unisex services through a variety of contexts, including:
- Working in a unisex hair salon
- Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare you for employment as a unisex hairdresser, you may choose to develop your skill base further by undertaking specialist qualifications at Level 3, including:
- VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Barbering
- VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Barbering
- VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Barbering Studies
